ضحاک: افسانه پادشاه مارها

این داستان فولکلور ایرانی داستان شاهزاده ضحاک را روایت میکند. شاهزاده توسط شیطان متقاعد میشود که پدرش، پادشاه را به قتل برساند تا بتواند تاج و تخت را به سرقت ببرد. به زودی پس از تاجگذاری، ضحاک دوباره توسط شیطان فریب میخورد و بوسههای او به مارهای هیولایی تبدیل میشود که از شانههای پادشاه رشد میکنند. شاه به خاطر خیانت و ظلمش در سراسر سرزمین بدنام میشود. او به مدت هزار سال حکومت میکند تا اینکه مرد جوان و نجیب ایرانی به نام فریدون قدرت و ارتش لازم را برای شکست دادن پادشاه ناعادل به دست میآورد.

This Iranian folk story tells the tale of Prince Zahhak. The Prince is convinced by the devil to murder his father the king so that he can steal the throne. Soon after, the crowned Zahhak is duped again by the devil whose kisses turn into monstrous snakes that grow out of the king’s shoulders. The Serpent King grows infamous through out the land for his treachery and oppression. He rules for one thousand years before a noble and valiant young Iranian man named Feraydun gains the strength and army to defeat the unjust King.

Hamid Rahmanian is a 2014 John Guggenheim Fellow. His work centers on film, theater and graphic arts. Rahmanian was educated in Tehran, Iran where he gained his B.F.A. in Graphic Design from Tehran University. His work as a graphic designer spans two decades. He owned and managed a top firm in Tehran for five years. In 1992, he received the highest honor and was awarded recognition as the youngest professional designer in Iran.
